EETC: 4 Billion EGP to Compensate Contractors For The EGP Devaluation.
Al-Mal news learned from official sources in the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy that the rise in cost of EETC signed projects due to amending these contracts to compensate for the EGP value drop will be close to EGP 4 billion.
The sources said that all the companies that are providing substations and transmission lines projects through contracts signed or negotiated before deregulation, called for amending these contracts as they shall be subject to huge losses due to currency differences. It is anticipated that EETC would call for the Ministry of Finance to participate in financing part of the differences, especially that EETC is already burdened with loans.
EETC formed a committee to negotiate with companies including ABB, Alstom, Schneider Electric and EGEMAC, among other local companies, to amend each contracts separately. The sources indicated that contract amendments are limited to contracts signed in EGP before the currency floatation and confirmed that all contractors are continuing in executing signed contracts with no interruptions. No modification is foreseen for any contract signed after the currency flotation or in foreign currency.
